Peshawar, The family of Shahzeb Khan, a dedicated journalist associated with Sports Tribune and National TV Express News, has been compelled to relocate to Darlatfal(Orphanage) due to a series of distressing incidents involving unidentified individuals. Following Shahzeb Khan’s departure abroad, his immediate family, including his children, younger sister, and wife, encountered harassment by unknown parties, prompting local authorities to take action. The concerned youth involved in the harassment have been detained by the local administration.
In response to these unsettling events, Shahzeb Khan’s wife communicated through WhatsApp to the local journalists, confirming that they, along with their children, have been relocated to Orphanage for their safety.
The Khyber Union of Journalists, a local organization representing journalists, has been actively raising their voice against these incidents and staging protests to demand increased security measures for Shahzeb Khan’s family. They have called upon the Inspector General of Police for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to intervene and provide necessary protection to the journalist’s family. However, despite their efforts, Shahzeb Khan remains unreachable for comment regarding the entire situation.
It is important to note that Shahzeb Khan had been facing significant threats amidst a recent surge in acts of terrorism. Consequently, he took the decision to relocate abroad to New Zealand. Shahzeb Khan had previously shared a video concerning Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, which had exposed him to threats on multiple occasions. These threats escalated to the point of endangering his life and well-being.
The safety and security of journalists and their families remain paramount, and it is imperative that measures are taken to ensure their protection in the face of adversity. The Khyber Union of Journalists continues to advocate for the safeguarding of those who contribute to the dissemination of news and information and stands united against any attempts to silence their voices through intimidation and harassment.
