The Chief Executive of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Phil Batty OBE, has welcomed the announcement that Amdavad, India, has been officially selected to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Amdavad, located in the Indian state of Gujarat, was ratified as the 2030 host city during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow, following a vote by delegates representing 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.

The handover from Glasgow 2026 to Amdavad for the centenary edition of the Games comes after the Indian city received a strong recommendation last month from Commonwealth Sport’s Evaluation Committee and Executive Board,after this decision Indian delegates and president commonwealth sports staged a press briefing,
“The awarding of the centenary Commonwealth Games to India feels like a milestone moment for the Commonwealth Sport movement. As Glasgow prepares to welcome 74 nations and territories in 2026, we congratulate Amdavad on their successful bid. Their energy, ambition and vision are remarkable. We look forward to collaborating with them to deliver an inspiring and sustainable Games” Phil Batty OBE added,

He added more that Scotland’s decision to host the 2026 Games has been a catalyst for change in how major sporting events are planned and delivered, helping create a new blueprint for the next 100 years of the Commonwealth Games.
